Elizabeth City man arrested for threatening Nags Head Police Department

An Elizabeth City man has been arrested for threating the Nags Head Police Department, according to a press release from the Town of Nags Head.

The release stated that Keith Brown, 42, called the Dare County Sheriff’s Office 911 Communications Center on Tuesday, October 8 at about 11:30 p.m. and threatened the use of firearms and military weaponry against the Nags Head Police Department. In addition, Brown also demanded a cash payment.

Additional security precautions were in place at town offices and fire stations until Brown was arrested on Wednesday, October 9 in Elizabeth City. He was charged with four offenses related to the threats, including communicating threats and extortion, and was transported to the Dare County Detention Center with a $610,000 bond.

“In this day and time, any threat is taken seriously,” said Nags Head Police Chief Phil Webster.

It was noted that Brown has been arrested in the past by the department.

“Nags Head police would like to thank the following agencies for their assistance: Dare County Sheriff’s Office, Kitty Hawk Police Department, Elizabeth City Police Department, Pasquotank County Sherriff’s Office, State Bureau of Investigation and Homeland Security Investigations,” the release concluded.

Brown’s first appearance was Thursday, October 10 on the bomb threat, extortion, communicating threat and threatening phone call. He is to be assigned a court-appointed attorney and a court date has been set for October 31.
