The Coast Guard continued to search Wednesday night, January 8 for two missing mariners whose vessel, Papa’s Girl, capsized Tuesday night in the vicinity of the Pamlico Sound.

Watchstanders at the Fifth Coast Guard District command center received the vessel’s distress signal from an emergency position indicating radio beacon on Tuesday night and quickly launched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City to respond, along with a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew from Coast Guard Station Hatteras Inlet. Two of the four mariners were found at that time and transported to the hospital, where one was later pronounced dead.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Coast Guard launched an HC-130 Hercules aircrew from Air Station Elizabeth City to conduct search patterns for the two missing mariners, along with 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew from Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet.
