Missing swimmer reported in Currituck Sound

Sgt. John Beardsley with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission Law Enforcement Division has reported that on Monday, September 7 at 12:30 p.m., Currituck County took a call regarding a missing swimmer.

A man had reportedly jumped off of a rented pontoon boat to swim just offshore from Duck in the Currituck Sound. The man struggled in the water and his friends threw him a life jacket. Unable to reach the life jacket, the man then fell below the water’s surface, according to Beardsley.

The missing man is reported to be from India working for an IT company in New Jersey.

NC Wildlife was first in scene and began the search. Currituck County Sheriff’s Office joined the search as well as the US Coast Guard.

The search for the missing man is ongoing and if anyone locates him, they should call 911.
