Charges pending in fatal Moyock collision

According to North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper White, charges against the driver of a car that struck a bicyclist in Moyock in the early hours of August 30 are pending. Authorities say a 61-year-old Virginia Beach man has admitted he drove the car that struck the victim. Authorities are waiting for the results of an autopsy before charging him.

The victim in the hit and run incident, Baltazar Brito-Brito, was struck at around 1:56 a.m. on August 30. The victim was struck while on a bike and crossing the Hwy 168 roadway by an older model Toyota passenger car.  The driver of the Toyota left the scene, but came forward later.

Another traffic fatality at or near the scene, around the same time involving another vehicle was treated as a separate but related incident. A pedestrian that went to the aid of Brito-Brito was struck and the first victim was struck again by a 2015 Dodge Durango. Robert Lewis II of Currituck, who as driving the Dodge, has been cited for misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
