Elizabeth City man arrested in Norfolk on outstanding fugitive warrant for three shooting deaths

The Elizabeth City Police Department has reported that a collaborative effort between ECPD, Norfolk Police Department’s Fugitive Task Force and Special Operation Team, U.S. Marshal Carolina’s Regional Fugitive Task Force and the U.S. Marshal Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force resulted in the Wednesday, December 15, 2021 arrest of Ricky Lewis Etheridge Jr. on an outstanding fugitive warrant for the deaths of three people.

Etheridge was taken into custody in Norfolk, Va. and transported to Norfolk City Jail, where he is currently held under no bond with a court appearance scheduled for Friday, December 17, 2021 in Norfolk.

Etheridge was wanted on three counts of murder as a result of the shooting and subsequent homicides that occurred in Elizabeth City on Thursday, December 2, 2021. Killed in the shooting were Takeyia De’Shay Berry, 39, and Allura Pledger, 3, both of Manteo, and Jaquan Tobias White, 18, of Elizabeth City.

“The Elizabeth City Police Department is actively investigating this incident that also left three additional victims injured from the shooting with additional charges pending,” stated an ECPD press release. Injured in the incident were Roderick White, 40; James Harris, 29; and Terry Griffin, 20; all of Elizabeth City.

“The Elizabeth City Police Department would like to thank the joint efforts of all law enforcement agencies that assisted in the investigation and apprehension of Ricky Lewis Etheridge, Jr. to include: Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, Norfolk Police Department Fugitive Task Force and Special Operations Team, and the U.S. Marshals Service Office’s Carolina’s Regional Fugitive Taskforce and Regional Fugitive Task Force,” stated the press release.
