Two injured in collision involving car and motorcycle

A collision Thursday night in Manteo between a car and a motorcycle sent two people to the hospital.

According to police, the driver of a Chevrolet attempting to make a turn struck a northbound motorcycle. The motorcycle rider was thrown onto the highway. The accident happened just after 9 p.m. in front of the McDonald’s restaurant on Highway 64 in Manteo.

The motorcycle operator, Phil Ruckle, of Manteo, suffered hand and leg injuries and was transported to The Outer Banks Hospital where he was treated and later released. The driver of the Chevrolet was also transported to the hospital for treatment. Both the car and motorcycle were damaged.

The driver of the car, Ashley Nicole White, of Manteo, was ticketed for failure to first see that such movement could be made in safety.
