Kitty Hawk considers miniature horses

The Kitty Hawk Planning Board at its March 14 meeting reviewed a request to add a distinct definition for miniature horses, with a modified minimum lot size requirement for keeping them.

After some discussion, the application received a vote of approval with a few added restrictions.

In addition to requiring a 20 foot setback for any enclosures, the board recommended the request for a 20,000 square foot lot be changed to require a minimum of 10,000 square feet be dedicated to the miniature horse.

In other business for the evening, the board recommended approving a subdivision request that will divide a plot of land at 921 West Kitty Hawk Road into three lots.

The proposal to split the 8.82 acre lot, site of the Cozy Kitchens Group since the late 1970s, was approved with little discussion. An existing home sits on one of the lots; the proposal will make room for another.

Both requests will go before the Kitty Hawk Town Council for review and possible action.
